All GP practices are affected by the current national shortage of blood tubes and are taking urgent steps alongside our hospitals to prioritise their use for people with the greatest clinical need. This includes testing for serious conditions such as cancer.

We are following national guidance which has been issued in response to the shortage. As a result, we need to cancel and delay a number of patient appointments for blood tests deemed routine or non-urgent. If you have a routine blood test appointment the reception team at the surgery will be in touch directly if they need to cancel your appointment, this will be by phone or by text message.

There are a few things you can do if you are affected by this change:

Keep checking our website for regular updates – we will be sharing the latest patient information here as soon as we receive it.

Check your phone for messages from us – we will also be using our patient text service to keep people informed.

Please don’t call or contact us with questions about routine blood tests – we are experiencing exceptional levels of demand at the moment, and your cooperation will help us to reach those without smartphone or internet access with this critical information.

Do get in touch online if your condition worsens or changes so that we can prioritise your blood test if necessary following clinical review

We will keep all our patients regularly updated as the national situation changes. We fully share the frustration this is likely to cause, and will do our best to provide the best possible service as we always do.

Important Notice regarding Routine Blood Tests - Statement from Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board

Due to an unexpected shortage of essential materials needed to process blood tests supplied by Roche Pharmaceuticals it is not possible to undertake some routine blood tests at the present time.

This is a UK-wide problem which Welsh Government and Welsh Health Boards are working urgently to resolve but cannot give a date for this.

We sincerely apologise if your test has been delayed or needs to be repeated.

Flu clinics will commence on Saturday 10th October 2020. The practice will be in contact with all eligible patients over the coming weeks to book patients in for the vaccination.

Please ONLY contact us if your allocated time is unsuitable. Our phone lines are extremely busy and we do not have the capacity to receive thousand's of additional calls regarding flu vaccinations.

Help us by following our guidance

- Only the person receiving the flu vaccination or parent/guarding or carer to attend the flu clinic.

- Do not arrive earlier than 5 minutes before your appointment. Patients arriving early will be asked to wait outside or in their vehicles.

- Do not attend if you have any symptoms of Coronavirus.

- Wear your face covering to the appointment.

- Wear short sleeves to help us vaccinate you as quickly as possible.

Thank you for your continued support.

Mental Health Support

Following on from yesterday’s post we are thinking of ways to reduce your need to visit the surgery.

Sick notes that have been requested and issued will now be posted to your home address. We will bear the expense for this.

With regard to prescriptions:

If you already have a regular pharmacy that collect your repeat script for you this will continue in the usual way. You need to do nothing different and you don’t need to check. If you speak to a Dr and are issued an acute script this will also be sent to your usual pharmacy shop.

If you usually collect your scripts from the reception desk in the surgery, your repeat script and any requests for scripts you make in the future will be dealt with in the following way:

If the first letter of your surname is:

  • A-I the script will be sent to Lloyds Pont Newydd 01443 682847
  • J-Q the script will be sent to Lloyds Hannah Street 01443 682107
  • R-Z the script will be sent to Sheppards (Oakdale) Porth 01443 687068

Please DO NOT ring the surgery to see if the script has been done. We are experiencing high call volumes and this is not necessary.

Please PHONE the pharmacy shop after a reasonable amount of time has passed to see if the script is ready, and to find out the best time to collect it.

Community pharmacists are really under immense pressure during this crisis, and want to also practice social distancing to keep YOU and THEM safe. It does not support this if a lot of people are in the shop at the same time.

It only needs ONE person to collect the script for somebody. DO NOT go in unless you absolutely have to.

Thanks for listening to our posts. It really does help us to help you. Teamwork is key to all we do and the team includes you
